Describe your student population (approximate number, ethnicity, language, etc): Small rural town, apx 180 in the top 3 grades. Large hispanic population, apx. 70%. Many speak Spanish with English as a second lanuage.
Describe your teaching change
I will be using much more technology than I used in the past. I believe that the technology will help keep the students interested in math and in turn help them to learn more. The technology will allow me to use math games and examples from the web sites that we have visited. What teaching change (instruction, assessment, materials) you like to improve?Explain how your teaching change will improve your students’ ability to learn mathematics.Also, describe possible ways that technology might assist you in making your teaching change. Set Teaching Goals
Goal 1) Use technology at least twice a week in a normal 5 school day week. Goal 2) Introduce new subjects with technology to help catch the students interest. 3) Probably the most important thing about the use of technology will be using it to give me another way to teach a concept. Identify at least two teaching goals (measurable accomplishment that if met would enable your students to learn mathematics more effectively). Describe Teaching Actions
I will use the Factoring Tree from the http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/vLibrary.html website and I will use the Probability Simulator on our calculators plus the TI-SmartView. Technology will be the best way to reinforce what has been taught and also to create interest in factoring and probability. Also if some students do not "get it", I will use different sites to explain lessons in another way. I will assess if I have met my goals by looking at my lesson plans. I will assess how the students are learning by testing in the classroom and comparing their standardized tests from previous years to how they do this year.
